Greenpeace approves festival in the Amazon
Sao Paulo, Brazil, 10th of April, 2001 - Greenpeace has announced today its support of Ecosystem 1.0, an electronic music festival that will take place in Manaus, Amazon, Brazil from the 2nd to the 5th of August of this year. Greenpeace was invited by the promoters of the event to propose ecological solutions that will help this event to have as little impact as possible on the Amazon forest.
Technologies like solar panels and biologic sewage treatment can already be counted upon as part of the project. "As well as the separation and recycling of rubbish, plus collective transport is a priority. Chemicals like chloride and foods that have been genetically modified will be avoided," says Rebeca Lerer of Greenpeace Amazon. "We want to show it's possible to put on large events using clean projects. Ecosystem 1.0 is to become a model of environmental preservation."
Inspired by the Green Olympics of the year 2000, which incorporated a series of guidelines that were used especially in the construction of the Olympic village, Ecosystem 1.0 has the goal of becoming a place of learning. The idea is that the public made up of foreigners, locals and people from other states in Brazil participate in the event without leaving behind a trail of destruction. "The people will have the opportunity learn how the Amazon really is through workshops and presentations from local people. The event is to serve as a way of communicating how important it is to preserve the largest tropical forest in the world," explains Rebeca.
DJ Soul Slinger, the artist who conceived the event, invited Greenpeace in July of last year. Slinger explains, "we chose Greenpeace because of its worldwide credibility." "The environment is an integrated part of the new generation and this generation has chosen electronic music as its sound track. Greenpeace will help us to point out some paths for this generation," continues Slinger.
Many very important names have already confirmed their presence at Ecosystem 1.0, including Afrika Bambatta, Soul Slinger, Mixmaster Morris, DJ Krush, Q-Bert, Mau Mau, Nacao Zumbi, Jumpin Jack Frost, Brian G and many more.
Greenpeace is grateful for the artists' support.
Ecosystem 1.0 will be transmitted live over the Internet with cutting edge technology DVD quality image and double surround sound system. The festival will be transmitted around the world, "Internet will put the event in everybody's reach" concludes Slinger.
