Technology and the Future
As we move into the future, our needs begin to change. Old ways of doing things show us our mistakes and their consequences, as well as our strenghts, as we pave the way towards responsible evolution. One of the greatest figures and influences of our time, Buckminster Fuller, gave us such insights into alternatives for free renewable energy and harmonious living on earth using our advanced forms of technology...an ideology that is a part of what drives the Ecosystem festivals. As one of the themes for Ecosystem 4, which will be dedicated to the life and ideas of Fuller, geodesic dome structures will be built and displayed. The geodesic dome - the lightest, strongest, and most cost-effective structure ever devised, was the invention that Buckminster Fuller was best known for.
Buckminster's lifelong goal was something he called "Comprehensive Anticipatory Design Science” – the attempt to anticipate and solve humanity's major problems through the highest technology by providing “more and more life support for everybody, with less and less resources.” One of the greatest problems facing the world today is how and WHAT we eat. One of the reasons is because of beef cattle consumption and the effects that this industry has on the environment. Entire forests are slashed and burned to graze cattle or to grow soy products for their feed, which result in the near complete destruction of regions such as the Atlantic Forest in Brazil.
Given the technology we have today, we can responsibly and consciously craft what we eat in such a manner that it doesn't pose a threat to our Ecosystems around the world. Soy products today, for example, can mimic ANY meat product out there like sausage or even bacon slices perfectly, which helps cut back on the demand of beef, chicken and poultry consumption. Even the incredibly high demand of seafood today has a great effect on the environment because we are leaving the rivers, bays, seas, and oceans bare of their natural forms of cleansing and filtering themselves of harmful pollutants. One thing we must ask ourselves in a situation like this is: why would we eat something that is designed to clean up toxins from our waters?
Festivals like Liquid Sky's Ecosystem are a great way to help people learn about the different options we have in regards to energy, nutrition and even how we build our residential and business structures.
